Business 2-Way Radios
|
Business radios
tend to be much more advanced in features, options, more durable, and
generally larger range than FRS/GMRS radio blend, but with that, comes
a steep price tag. Typically, at the business class, you also
have more channel privacy, because many services require a designated
frequency, if going out of the typically consumer based 2 way radio
blend.
Business band 2 way radios doesn't come cut and dry, however most bands
are in the 150 Mhz VHF band, and the 460 Mhz UHF band. The VHF
band is more crowded, and range tends to be better, due to larger
antenna aperture. Business radios usually are programmable via a
computer, and they tend to be more complex to program. They
usually also have advanced computer and pager interfacing options, and
often are built with split capability, to easily support repeater
option. Motorola, Vertex, Kenwood, and Icom are some of the tried
and true popular brands at the business class. It's common for
business 2 way radios to come with 25 watts or more. The cost per
radio can range from $150.00 to as high as $1,000 or more. Price is
often the main deturrent, why many businesses don't actually use a
business radio, but rather try to get away with a FRS, GMRS, MURS, or
believe it or not, the old standard cheap CB radio. Keep in mind,
that these consumer class bands, are for everyone, so you have no
privacy, or rights to any perticular channel, and may find others also
talking on, and listening to the same channels that you may attempt to
operate on.
