2 Way
Radios .Org is an informational website dedicated exclusively about the
technology and uses pertaining to 2-way radios. As a long time
hobby of mine, I enjoy helping others becoming more educated with
the subject of radio frequency electronics, and have built this site as
a helpful guide of information. The subject of 2 way radios and
the technology thereof is enormous, and I will do my best to answer
questions, and expect the website to grow along the process.
This is done for educational purposes only, to help benefit
others.
Some popular models include:
Motorola EM1000 2 way radio
Motorola SX900R 2 way radio
Motorola T9650RCAMO 2 way radio
2-way radios cover many size types, bands/frequency, and
purpose allocations. Handheld, Mobile, and Base Stations each have
their benefits and special purposes.
For FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Licensed-free communications, the most popular bands and allocations include:
- CB- Citizens Band at 27MHz HF
- 47 MHz Part 15- Extremely low power/limited for kids walkie talkies and toy RC vehicles
- MURS- Multi-Channel Radio Service (limited 5 channel VHF CB Band)
- FRS- Family Radio Service (UHF Band)
- GRMS-
This band often comes with UHF FRS radios automatically, and the
band is also for citizen public use, and can be bought easily anywhere
without a FCC licenses, however for full privileges, a basic permit is
requested to be filed with the FCC..
For advanced users and needs, there is also the "licensed" required. These breed of 2-way radios include:
- Ham
Radio- Amateur Radio Operators actually are given many rights and
privileges to include an enormous amount of bands/frequency allocation
dedicated to them by the FCC.
- Business Band - Mainly VHF and UHF bands
- Govt Band - From Police, FAA, Fire Dept, various public service, and so forth..
Now
that we have broke down the most popular bands and uses for both
consumer licensed free and licensed required communications, within
each, there is other things to consider such as antenna type, length,
and height. Whether you need the portability of a handheld unit, the
mobility of a mobile radio, or the extended range that only a full
sized base station set-up would offer. On the top menu, select which
type in band (FRS, GMRS..), where I attempted to provide more about
practical applications and limitations of each class and mode thereof.
